The Nationals Sports Sedan Association (NSSA) will hold their final round for the 2018 at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix for the popular Island Magic.
It’s been a while since the series has competed with their last appearance being the fourth round of the Shannons Nationals at Queensland Raceway in July.
With four rounds of their 2018 season already completed, round five winner and current leader Stephen Tamasi holds an almost unattainable lead of 54 points going into the final round.
While Tamasi is aware that his maiden title is not guaranteed, the expected absence of second placed Thomas Randle and potential withdrawal of ten-tine champion Tony Ricciardello puts the 25-year-old in very good position.
Only third placed Steven Lacey can stand in the way of the current leader, however with Lacey more than 130 points behind, a lot has to go wrong for Tamasi to lose the title.
“I believe I need to finish in the top 14 in one race to secure the title which I am confident I can do,” Tamasi said.
“Tony is not going to show up because he didn’t want to go hard and ruin his engine and Lacey has to win every single race while I score no points for him to win the series.
“I have gone home on a Friday many times in the past so I’m not getting too ahead of myself but my plan is to be little bit reserved on the Saturday, claim the title, then go for it on Sunday.
Despite having almost four-months between rounds, Tamasi is just excited to get out onto the track that is one of his favourite in Australia.
“I am really excited for the final especially that it’s at Phillip Island,” Tamasi added.
“The island is my favourite track and in my opinion, it’s the best track in Australia with high speed cars.
“We are going to enjoy it like we do with every round but we are going for personal best and we have done a lot of development on the car aerodynamic wise, so we’re super keen and eager to see how it goes.”
The National Sports Sedan Series is one of eight categories participating in the 2018 Island Magic which is taking place at Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit on 23 – 25 November.
